Banana Bread

Julia Kaiwi, The banana bread lady was raised on the island of Molokai before moving to a tranquil, isolated valley after getting married.

She began making banana bread when her husband passed away to provide for her two children. It’s been nine years since then.

She increased her daily production from 72 to 94 loaves and began baking seven days per week instead of 6 in the past year.

The Best Banana Bread on the Planet is now featured in specific guidebooks.

What exactly is in the Best Banana Bread on the Planet?

We informed her that your neighbor told us about the apple bananas, the peanut oil, and the fresh local eggs.

Uncle Julie disagrees, she says. The ingredients are Costco eggs, sugar, bananas, flour, maize oil—not peanut oil—vanilla essence, and baking soda.

She doesn’t use the tasty but more expensive apple bananas; instead, she uses ripe, regular bananas.

The bread turns black from the vanilla extract. A few years ago, she discovered the recipe in a cookbook.

Still, she claims that the most crucial component is “Aloha to everybody. You must relish it.”

Best is a subjective word.

Therefore, is Auntie Julie’s banana bread recipe the best there is? Unfortunately, I haven’t tried any of the others, so I can’t say.

But it has a strong banana flavor and is a sweet, moist, and delicious smelling, all qualities a good banana bread should have.

Driving the 25 miles along Maui’s west coast from Wailuku to Kapalua (or vice way) is undoubtedly part of the charm.

The view is stunning, but the driving is sluggish, the road has blind turns, and there are one-lane bridges.

Artists and photographers adore the little Kahakuloa Hawaiian Congregational Church, which is framed by the towering Kahakuloa Head (636-foot hill).

There are numerous photo opportunities, including the Nakalele Blowhole up towards the Kapalua end of the road, which sprays a magnificent torrent of water into the air.

Although this west side route is not as lengthy or well-traveled as the renowned Hana Highway, the scenery is just as breathtaking. And you can only find Auntie Julie’s Best Banana Bread Here.
