You Look Familiar
Most people are acquainted with the ubiquitous green-leaved parent of Philodendron Brasil-the resilient and humble heart-leaf philodendron, which is also known as sweetheart vine.
Its easygoing nature has made it one of the most popular houseplants. Philodendron Brasil sports a bit of flash and color but is just as carefree. It does appreciate brighter light, though, or at least more than its shade-seeking kin.
Any Place Will Do
This plant’s most appealing characteristic is versatility. Place Brasil anywhere, and it just glows. It looks great in a hanging basket, which accentuates the plant’s vining habit.
This philodendron is also content on a bookshelf or side table, where it will wander around till it makes itself at home. Set one in the corner of a room, and let it gain a tall stature climbing up a wireframe.
Remember to think about color when choosing a pot for this plant. Orange terra-cotta will enhance the yellow in the leaves.
Glazed ceramic pots in reds and browns will echo those shades too. Even a cool green pot will make the yellows shine.
‘Brasil’ is widely available at nurseries and garden centers; ask your local nursery to order it for you if they don’t have it.
To root this plant, place stem cuttings in clear vases of water and set them on a windowsill.
When they are well rooted, plant them in pots and pass a few along to friends and relatives to win over their hearts.
